GMT Robotics has announced the development of the MEGA WELDMATE Robot, a new robotic welding technology designed for industrial manufacturing.

This technology is built with a combination of automation, flexibility, and precision, all within one system.

With its industrial-grade versatility, the robot is designed to meet the needs of large-scale operations.

The system can handle a wide range of materials and configurations鈥攊ncluding 2D bar mats, standard mesh, heavy and mega mesh鈥攁nd is capable of welding complex 3D cages and structural components with accuracy, stated the company.

GMT Robotics CEO Ulrich Deichmann said: 鈥淎utomating rebar welding has long been a challenge due to irregular shapes, ribbed surfaces, and fabrication inaccuracies. With over 40 years in rebar, we developed our Mega WeldMate system in 2020 using vision and high-speed cameras to identify weld points in milliseconds – even without perfect jigs.

鈥淥ur software compensates for deviations, guiding the robot to complete strong, precise welds in seconds. For tunnel segments鈥攃omplex and time-consuming to fabricate manually鈥攊t鈥檚 a game-changer. We can produce a standard segment in under 30 minutes.鈥

GMT Robotics has developed the MEGA WELDMATE with flexibility at its core, enabled by its compatibility with both standard and custom jigs to allow fabricators to have control over welds.

The robot is also built to handle complex structural challenges such as welding curved 2D and 3D components.

When the setup is in the right jig configuration, it is also capable of executing tunnel segment welding鈥攁 task few robotic systems can match.

This capability to manage such customised tasks positions the MEGA WELDMATE as a 鈥渃omprehensive solution鈥 for 鈥渋ntricate鈥 fabrication requirements, stated the company.

For companies navigating a technology-driven landscape, the robot offers a welding solution that integrates skill and technology into fabrication tools.
